46TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE PRESS RELEASE
The Nigerian Economic Society (NSE) held its 46th Annual Conference at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja from 23rd - 25th August 2005. The theme of conference was "Benefits and Costs of Economic Reform in Nigeria". The choice of this theme was considered necessary in view of the on-going reform process and the need to assess the impacts and potential impacts of the reform strategies vis-à-vis the objectives of the economic reforms.
The conference drew attention to some areas of challenge that must be taken serious. These include the challenge of sustainability of the process of reforms; the challenge of ensuring that the benefits of the reforms outright their costs, and the need for constant monitoring of the implementation and adjustments, where necessary, to ensure realization of intended goals.
Sourcing the conference, the Society in its Annual General Meeting, elected new officers who will run the affairs of the Society for the next two years 2005 - 2007. The new Council has the following officers:
